Vampirella

This seductive vampire of gorgeous body was created at the end of 60's decade by Forrest J. Ackerman for Warren Publishing.

Ackerman decided to call his heroine Vampirella because of the film "Barbarella" based on the comic book by Jean-Claude Forest and played by Jane Fonda.

Vampirella was born in Drakulon, a planet in which its inhabitants called the Vampiri lived on the blood that flowed in rivers in a natural way. But early the two twin suns which orbited the planet caused a deadly drought. Rivers ran dry and the Vampiri began to die when a spaceship from the Earth crashed on Drakulon. Vampirella discovered that humans had blood in their veins and travelled to their planet looking for a possible salvation for her race. There she managed to fight against those evil vampires. Vampirella has vampiric powers and needs blood in order to survive but she is free from vampire's feebleness and does not assault human people.

Vampirella's character was developed initially by Archie Goodwin and was designed by Frank Frazetta and Tom Sutton. Lately the spanish illustrator Pepe González would improve this incredible heroine showing her even more sexy.

In 1983 Harris Publications acquired legal rights over Warren's characters and published Vampirella's stories from 1991 to 2007. Recently Fangoria Comics announced the characters' acquisition from Harris.

Vampirella is perhaps one of the most successful comic's heroines.
