Rolf Armstrong

Rolf Armstrong He was born in 1899 in Seattle and moved to Chicago in 1908 to study at the Art Institute. In 1919 he travelled to Paris and enrolled at the Acadèmie Julian.

After coming back from his trip he set up a painting studio in Greenwich Village and began to work painting portraits for the Ziegfield Follies. Early he carried out another important projects and during the 20's and 30's decades he worked for different companies as Pictorial Review, Brown & Bigelow, RCA, or Thomas D. Murphy Company becoming very famous. His success was so great that even some Hollywood stars such as Mary Pickford, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, or Katherine Hepburn posed for him.

Armstrong wanted to reach perfection and for this reason he also wanted to find a perfect girl for his paintings. When he met Jewel Flowers she became his main model.

His beautiful pin-up girls were surrounded by brilliant and bright colours.

He died in 1960 in Hawaii at the age of 71.
